DACULA, Ga. - Gwinnett County fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge says the sanctuary of a church was heavily damaged by a fire.
Rutledge said a passerby reported the fire Thursday morning at St. Mary Romanian Orthodox Church.
Rutledge says fire crews found the fire burning in the floors and walls of the sanctuary and pulpit area.
He says there was no one at the church when firefighters arrived, and no injuries have been reported.
Rutledge says the interior of the sanctuary area received extensive damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
